Getting to F
If you're going to get in the habit of using leverage, doing a bit more with a little less to get more impact and influence, then you've got to get your wings flapping in a different direction.
What You Say
One way to figure out if you're really serious, is to listen to your stories. It's about how you tell the tale, not about the actual event. Let's say that you are following through on a New Year's Commitment to lose weight.
Six weeks into it, you might be telling a friend, "I'm so fat. I'm tired of feeling like this. I've always had a problem with following diets. Just this nibble won't hurt."
That's what's called "Moving away from". It's what you don't want. You're speaking in yesterday's language.
How to Flip Your Intentions
Change your phrasing: "I want to be healthy, so that means I'm making some choices about the foods I'm eating. Nothing tastes as good as feeling thin feels."
This is "moving toward" talk. This is what you want. The words you choose tell you that the past is gone, and you've made a conscious decision to move forward.
Take a look at the Idea Du Jour list of words that start with F... take five minutes to check out your story telling. Do you use the same wording to tell the same story to different people at different times? That's the best clue to figuring out what needs to change.
The way you speak may be keeping you stuck!
Send me some examples, and I'll give you a complimentary e-coaching session!
